This MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) aims to provide a basic theoretical understanding of wheelchair mobility and to develop an understanding of the theoretical principles, skills and knowledge underlying the management skills and knowledge in the management of wheelchair service delivery.  Starting on 3 September 2018 and lasting for 4 weeks, it will involve around 4-6 hours of work each week (depending on your learning style)

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy professionals, clinicians, students and assistants. It will introduce the role of the wheelchair in mobility, explore assessment and the roles of the multidisciplinary team in wheelchair service delivery, as well as provide a theoretical understanding of management techniques and related clinical considerations. It will not teach practical skills or lead to any clinical qualification.

Ce Livret de Formation sur « l’approche personnalisée - centrée sur la personne » à destination des professionnel-le-s des services sociaux est le produit d’une formation réalisée par Humanité & Inclusion (nouveau nom de Handicap International - HI) en Algérie, dans le cadre du projet « L’éducation des enfants en situation de handicap au cœur des dynamiques de développement territorial au Maghreb ». Cette formation avait pour objectif de renforcer les capacités du personnel de la Direction de l’Action Sociale de la Solidarité de la ville d’Oran à accueillir et accompagner les personnes handicapées. Ce livret propose de questionner les postures et la qualité de la relation entre un professionnel de service social et un usager, et ce dans un objectif d’autonomisation de la personne accompagnée. Elle permet aussi une introduction au processus d’accompagnement social personnalisé. Il se compose d’une fiche pédagogique, d’un agenda détaillé et son contenu qualitatif, avec des propositions d’animations et des outils nécessaires à l’animation de cette formation.

A new way to measure child functioning

"In recognizing the need for a set of questions that would produce internationally comparable data on children, the Washington Group formed a subgroup in 2009 that is chaired by the National Statistical Office of Italy (ISTAT). UNICEF joined the subgroup in 2011.

The first main activity of the subgroup was the development of a short set of questions to reflect current thinking on child functioning for inclusion in censuses and surveys. The new module uses the ICF-CY as the conceptual framework and relies on a functional approach to measuring disability.

The Washington Group/UNICEF Module on Child Functioning, finalized in 2016, covers children between 2 and 17 years of age and assesses functional difficulties in different domains including hearing, vision, communication/comprehension, learning, mobility and emotions. To better reflect the degree of functional difficulty, each area is assessed against a rating scale. The purpose is to identify the subpopulation of children who are at greater risk than other children of the same age or who are experiencing limited participation in an unaccommodating environment. The set of questions is intended for use in national household surveys and censuses"

The module is being translated into multiple languages. Supporting documentation, including a concept note, tabulation plan, templates for reporting, guidelines for interviewers and training materials are also available.

Module 15 : inclusive education in emergencies

This module outlines 90 minutes of training activities and materials relating to inclusive education in emergency contexts. It provides the basic principles underpinning inclusive education, barriers to inclusion, and how they can be identified and addressed in emergencies. It also encourages participants to begin thinking about how to apply suggested good practices for inclusive education in emergencies, such as those outlined in "INEE Pocket Guide to Supporting Learners with Disabilities", and "Education in Emergencies: Including Everyone." This module is useful for anyone interested in inclusive education in emergency contexts

Ce manuel de formation en « éducation inclusive, avec un accent particulier sur l’accueil d’enfants handicapés en classe ordinaire » veut contribuer à la réalisation des objectifs de l'Éducation Pour Tous et ainsi assurer à tous les enfants l'égalité des droits et des chances en matière d’éducation, y compris pour les enfants handicapés. L’éducation inclusive désigne un système éducatif qui tient compte des besoins particuliers en matière d'enseignement et d'apprentissage de tous les enfants et jeunes gens en situation de marginalisation et de vulnérabilité : enfants des rues, filles, groupes d'enfants appartenant à des minorités ethniques, enfants issus de familles démunies financièrement, enfants nomades, enfants handicapés, etc. L’éducation inclusive se rapporte à l’ensemble des mesures qu’une école doit prendre pour être accessible à tous ces enfants. Le présent manuel de formation en éducation inclusive met l’accent sur la scolarisation des enfants handicapés. Toutefois, l’ensemble des stratégies proposées va inévitablement promouvoir les opportunités en matière d’éducation pour de nombreux autres groupes d’enfants exclus des systèmes éducatifs. Il constitue une introduction au concept d’éducation inclusive que des formations spécifiques sur la déficience mentale, le Braille et la langue des signes viendront compléter. Si les publications en langue anglaise sur l’éducation inclusive sont abondantes, ce n’est pas le cas dans le monde francophone. Nous espérons donc que le présent document viendra combler ce manque. 

Engaging faith-based organizations in HIV prevention : a training mannual for programme managers

This manual is a capacity-building tool to help policy makers and programmers identify, design and follow up on HIV prevention programmes undertaken by faith-based organisations (FBOs). It can also be used by development practitioners partnering with FBOs to increase their understanding of the role of FBOs in HIV prevention, and to design plans for partnering with FBOs to halt the spread of the virus. The manual explores how religious values and the power of religious leaders to mobilise communities can be used to design effective and sustainable community programmes to address HIV, and it explains how to involve religious leaders in programmes to eliminate the stigma and discrimination often directed to people living with HIV and how to encourage community support and solidarity using the compassionate spirit of religion. It also outlines the key HIV prevention messages that religious leaders can promote and the skills they need to deliver them effectively. "Building on existing basic CBR skills set out in publications such as Disabled Village Children (Hesperian Foundation) and the manual Training in the Community for People with Disabilities (WHO), this training manual covers the additional organizational skills, knowledge and attitudes needed when implementing CBR in accordance with the various components of the new CBR guidelines... Each training module can be used independently of the other modules and it is also possible to use individual sessions from a module. When following all of the modules, there is a certain overlap, for example, between the modules on networking, working with disabled people’s organisations (DPO) and social integration. Trainers can select sessions that are more applicable for their trainees. Training objectives are set out at the beginning of each training sheet. Some modules do not cover all of the objectives if the knowledge, skills and attitudes are covered in other modules. The trainer therefore has the flexibility to decide whether to add sessions to a module where applicable. Training objectives are divided into the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed in order to work in the field on that specific topic. If certain modules are more suitable for CBR (field) workers rather than supervisors or managers, or vice versa, this is clearly indicated
A CD which provides supporting materials is included with this manual. Folders for each module contain sub-folders with the session number. Materials for single sessions are included, as are general materials about the module topics. The presentations on the CD are all PowerPoint presentations. Not all settings are appropriate for a PowerPoint presentation. Alternative forms of doing a presentations should then be chosen"
