History of Source

Source was set up in 2000/2001, combining the physical collections of Healthlink Worldwide (formerly AHRTAG) and the Centre for International Child Health (later the Centre for International Health and Development (CIHD) and now The Institute for Global Health (IGH)) – housed in the library at the Institute of Child Health, University College London, where IGH is based - with an online presence for global users. Handicap International UK joined the partnership soon after Source started.

The combined information support centre was designed to meet the information needs of individuals and organisations working in health, disability and development worldwide. These included health care workers, disabled people's organisations, CRB workers, OTs, disability practitioners, and grassroots and local NGOs in developing countries, as well as academics, researchers and policy influencers.

Source previously comprised both an online and a physical (library) resource centre. In early 2011, Source became a purely electronic collection, with all resources accessible through the Internet. In early 2012, Source underwent a restructure and refocused the collection becoming an International Online Resource Centre on Disability and Inclusion. You can contact Source at: sourceassistant.uk@hi.org

The physical collection still exists and any enquiries should be directed to IGH at, The Friends of the Children of Great Ormond Street Library at the Institute of Child Health. Email: ich.library@ucl.ac.uk

The collection is managed by Humanity & Inclusion. Humanity & Inclusion is an international aid organisation working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, Humanity & Inclusion takes action and raise awareness in order to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.
