NMAC aims to develop leadership of colour within communities to address the challenges of HIV/AIDS. NMAC's Public Policy Division works to promote sound national HIV/AIDS, health and social policies that are responsive to the needs of the diverse communities impacted by HIV/AIDS. The technical assistance team conduct individual, on-site Community Based Organization (CBO) management and organizational needs assessments in order to support long-term organizational health of front-line AIDS service organizations. They provides in-depth training and conferences opportunities to AIDS service organizations across the country, and produce publications including a quarterly newsletter, NMAC Lifeline. Works to ensure that the population and health policies of international institutions supported by the United States government actively promote women's sexual and reproductive health. CHANGE takes its mandate from the Programme of Action of the 1194 International Conference on Population and Development, and other relevant agreements that call upon governments and international agencies to achieve these same objectives. Specifically we seek to translate the language of these documents into practical, operational and measueable within and across the areas of family planning, STDs and HIV, and gender violence. The Population Council conducts research in over 50 countries to address critical health and development issues. Their work allows couples to plan their families and chart their futures. They help people avoid HIV infection and access life-saving HIV services. They also empower girls to protect themselves and have a say in their own lives.

The Council's capabilities include:

IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE to identify service-delivery challenges and test solutions that improve family planning, reproductive health, HIV and AIDS services, and programs for adolescent girls;


POLICY RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS that provide data needed by national governments and international bodies to develop evidence-based health and development policies;


DEMOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS to document the significance of the link between population and development;

DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCTS that enable men and women to prevent pregnancy and protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections and disorders of the reproductive system;


CLINICAL TRIALS of promising products to determine their efficacy and safety;


PRODUCT INTRODUCTION to ensure that technologies developed by the Council are available to the poorest and most vulnerable people worldwide.

Human Rights Watch is an international NGO dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world. Since its formation in 1978, it focused mainly on upholding civil and political rights. More recently it has begun to include social, cultural and economic rights. They do this by researching human rights abuses in all regions of the world, and then publishing the findings as widely as possible in the media. They also follow women's and children's rights.

The Secretariat of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues works to promote and support the mandate of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the implementation of the Forum's recommendations. It is a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council and was established in 2000. It meets annually for ten days and most recently focusing on 'the millennium development goals and indigenous peoples: redefining the millennium development goals'. It also holds workshops bringing together experts on indigenous issues. The main issues that the Permanent Forum focuses on are: the millennium development goals, women and children and youth. It has also adopted a resolution promoting a second decade of the world's indigenous peoples (from January 2005 until January 2015)
