HAPSCO is a local NGO seeking to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia by creating awareness of HIV/AIDS in the community and by working to change behaviour. It also facilitates care and counselling programmes for AIDS orphans and patients. Its activities include training women's association leaders, youth association leaders and religious leaders to train their members; skills training for at-risk girls; sensitising factory workers and sex workers about HIV/AIDS and STIs; teaching about reproductive health in primary schools using peer educators; creating AIDS clubs in factories and primary schools; counselling; STI screening; home care services; and financial support to families of PLWAs and HIV orphans
